The CAS is excited to announce the Summer Scholarship Competition!

If you’ve always wanted to study at an art academy, but haven’t had the opportunity, now’s your chance! We’re offering free study to three lucky winners. If you have a passion to learn more about drawing and painting on a professional level you are encouraged to apply. Open to all skill levels.

Grand prize:
One person will win the opportunity for one month of full time study at the CAS, August 4th-29th. The winning student will be fully immersed into the curriculum and see first hand what it’s like to work in a professional academic environment. Study will include critiques on personal project (Bargue copy, cast drawing, cast painting, still life painting- dependant upon skill level) in the morning and nude model session in the afternoon. Student will also have the opportunity to attend night figure sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as any lectures given during their stay.
Second place prize:
Two people will win the opportunity to attend the summer session workshop of their choice:
*Painting the Figure Outdoors in Springville, Utah  July 23-26, 2014
In this workshop we will cover the development of a concept for painting a figure in an outdoor setting.  We will discuss the use of tools such as thumbnail sketches, location scouting, costume, photography, color studies, final composition drawings and how to bring a painting to completion.  We will also be working from a live model all 4 days.
*Landscape Painting Workshop  August 11-15, 2014
In this workshop we will cover how to approach landscape painting in the field.  Students will learn methods of making studies as well as how to best utilize these studies for later studio work.  We will work outdoors each day.
*Portrait Drawing & Painting Workshop  August 28 - 30, 2014
In this workshop we will cover the basics of setting up, lighting and posing a portrait.  Students are welcome to choose to draw or paint.

How to apply: Send 5 images (maximum 72 dpi) of your best work created within the last three years along with a two to three paragraph summary statement on what your professional goals are to:
